Jeans Team

Biography

Jeans Team is an electronic band based in Berlin, Germany, that has been creating music since 1995.

Jeans Team was named after an abandoned neon sign that was left over from the 70s and that they found hanging in front of a cheap fashion shop in Berlin Wedding. Their unique sound combines elements of dance music with complex pop-structures, using few (mostly German) lyrics. The band became popular with hits such as: “Keine Melodien”, “Baby 3”, “Oh Bauer” and “Das Zelt”.
Jeans Team’s two founding members (and their actual line up to date), Franz Schütte and Reimo Herfort, were also co-founders of the galerie berlintokio – a gallery turned into a club – one of Berlin’s most magnetic and stimulating underground places in the late 90s. The venue gave rise to the band’s first rehearsals, live performances, and recordings. It is where they met Henning Watkinson and Gunther Kreis and produced their singles, “Hi Fans” and “Ein Atom”, which were released on their own label, Nadel Eins, in 1998.

In 2000, Jeans Team signed with the record label Kitty-Yo and released their first album “Ding Dong,” which became a milestone for lo-fi electronic music lovers. The album contains the hit single “Keine Melodien” which was an international hit. MJ Lan made a Remix of the song and Peaches made a cover version that can be found on the US release of “Teaches of Peaches”. After Jeans Team released the mini album “Gold und Silber” (2002) which also appeared on Pluxemburg Records for Skandinavia, the band broke away from Kitty-Yo. Shortly after, they teamed up with the newly formed record label Louisville-Records to release two additional albums, “Musik von Oben”(2005) and “Kopf Auf” (2006). These albums respectively included another two hits, “Oh Bauer” and “Das Zelt.” Jeans Team had become a strong force within the young German music scene, and their unconventional style has gone on to set new standards for music all over the world.

In 2008, Jeans Team completed their World tour with shows spanning three continents including China. Incredible crowd reaction prompted them to return to China in 2009, this time extending the trip to Seoul and Tokyo in a full Asia Tour organized by Fake Music Media (FMM). They also released their first Asia album on Beijing based Shanshui Records including remixes from China´s most cutting edge electronic music producers LIMAN and Sulumi and Swedish 8-bit producer Covox.

Jeans Team has expanded their Universe, with DJ gigs under their moniker “Tracht & Prügel – Jeans Team DJs”, a radio show in Berlin, and as event organizers, they started their new virtual label Alkomerz! which gives updates and information about the band, their collective of artists and musicians, and all that’s happening in this Universe.

In May 2012, they did another Asia Tour organized by FakeLoveMusic where they played some of the biggest festivals in China as well as Vietnam and South Korea.
